A ride in the Taxi

It was late evening and a woman and her 12-year-old son were in a taxi in the city.

It was raining and they could see several women were standing under awnings. She knew they were prostitutes. 

"Mum," said the boy, "who are all those women, and why are they all standing around like that?"

She tactfully replied, "They're waiting for their husbands to get off work."

    

The cabbie looked round and said,

"Hey, why don't you tell him the truth?  They're hookers, son. They have sex with men for money."

The little boy's eyes opened wide and he said, "Is that true Mum?"

His mother, glaring hard at the taxi driver, answers that it was true.

After a few minutes, the boy asked, "Mum, if those women then have babies, what happens to them?"

"They probably become taxi drivers," she said.
