In the run-up to St. Patrick's Day, Monday 17th March, 2008 I and three other lads who own Irish bars in the area agreed to organise a raffle with the proceeds going to The Mercy Street Centre - a local orphanage.
As part of our sponsorship Metro Apartments put up several prizes:
A bottle of rare Middleton Whiskey - with numbered label and booklet from the Distillery
A bottle of Tullamore Dew
A pack of six Irish Linen Napkins
An Irish Damask Table Cloth.
Other prizes were a TV, a DVD player, a Cork City football Jersey, a book of cartoons and 2 cartoon drawings, a Rice Cooker.
I was delighted to see that I won only the rice cooker and was able there and then to auction it for an additional 1,000 Baht for the Centre. Equally pleasing was that one of my staff who tirelessly sold tickets in the bar, Liam (yes, although Thai, her name is Liam) won the Tullamore Dew and an Irishman who bought his ticket in a neighbouring bar (Murphy's Law) won the rare Middleton.
Equally satisfying was the fact that a staff member in The Irish Rovers won the TV - an ideal present for a Thai lass, indeed!!!
Other prizes went to customers who had bought tickets in the various sponsoring bars: Juice Restaurant in Soi Lengkee; Murphy's Law, The Irish Rovers and Metro Apartments in Soi LK Metro. http://www.pattayamail.com/766/social.shtml
As a result of the generosity of our customers we managed to raise 44, 000 Baht for the Charity which included around 2,000 Baht which was the proceeds of a fun-day quizcrawl (pub crawl) on Sunday 16th March.
On Thursday 20th March the four business owners and an Australian guest from Metro Apartments, Mr. Ted Sottiaux, went to the orphanage to present the prizemoney to Pastor Fred Doell. On that occasion Mr. Sottiaux very generously and graciously donated a further sum of 10,000 Baht to the orphanage. http://www.pattayapeople.com/default.asp?Folder=16&IdArticle=10750
Well done everyone and thanks to all participants in this worthy cause.
