Soi Lk Metro Snippets.
There are various reports of MASH having closed. More on this later.
There are also reports of Sugar Sugar having been sold.
Belgian place next to Lolitas and Lolitas itself also rumoured to be changing hands and being turned into Go Gos.
Over the next few days / weeks things will no doubt be clearer.

Tom Wells - RIP
Regular visitors to the street will have seen or visited Lolitas. Tom, owner of Lolitas passed away on 4th August. Cremation services will take place at 12.30 at Wat Kratungtong, Jomtien on Monday 13th. I had few dealings with Tom but always found him helpful and pleasant. Our condolences go out to his surviving family.

Soi LK Metro Snippets
This weekend has seen the beginning of the EURO 2012 Championship. Numbers are lower than previous years at this time, possibly because of the EUROs and people staying in Europe?
We've had a handful in for some games and quite a few more for others. As is often the case in Metro we've had greater numbers in for the Rugby Internationals - even though yesterday's results were not good for any n/h team.
Tonight sees the first appearance of Rep. Ireland and tomorrow night England's start. Here's hoping!

Former Traveller's Rest
The Office
Former Red 5s
Destiny
Paradise
Submarine
Kiss
Club Blu
Sugar Sugar
and Oasis along Boukhao.
Now there!

June 2012 & Euro 2012
June looks set to be a quiet month I suspect as most Europeans will be staying at home to watch the Euro 2012 competition. At any rate, for those still undecided, we have several standard rooms available which at about 16 quid a night are a steal!
We will be showing all Euro 2012 games in High Definition and will shortly be emailling a forecast game to all with instructions on what you have to do and what you can win! Entry is free!

The Oldest Son of a Miner by Jim Telford
I came across the link below at Amazon UK which points to the book above. Some of Metro Apartments Bar regulars will already know Jim and for many who don't he's a sound bloke. If you fancy a bit of a read about how life throws up the unexpected and the knock-on effects of decidions, take a look here. At any rate, congrats Jim, you're now listed on Amazon UK!

Soi LK Metro Update
Work continues on the property next to Metro Apartments but as yet I have no information when it might open. Across the street from us there is work being done upstairs. At some point in the next few weeks I believe work will start on the street level where a GoGo is going to appear.
I have heard that Bolaget is also going to be sold. Apparently the bar and restaurant next door have been knocked into one and it will be leased as one unit. There is nothing above being leased as someone already has those rooms.
The street owner is trying to arrange some order and I believe some of the 'infringements' on the thoroughfare will be removed.
At Metro we have had a few late cancellations which means we have some capacity for the first two weeks in December. Beyond that we are more or less fully booked through until mid January.
Some of the usual guests for this time of the year are back in town and it is nice to see familiar faces again.
We had a very enjoyable Rugby World Cup during which we sold all beer @ 60 Baht up to 6pm on rugby days. Although beer is a little difficult to get especially Singha and Leo there does seem to be plenty of San Miguel Light and Heineken around. Singha should be easier to obtain in about a month.
Beyond that, last week when I was in Bangkok there were noticeably fewer people around as a result of the negative impact of the flooding in the northern part of the city. There was, however, no water around the main tourist areas.
More news as and when we have it.

Pattaya City Elections
The weekend of 9th and 10th sees another election in Pattaya! This time to replace two city councillors and yes.... there is another alcohol ban for that weekend too. That makes three weekends in a row! On top of that Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July are two Buddhist holy days and yes .... you got it .... dry!
BIB
It appears some LK Metro venues got a visit and fine from BIB last week Saturday for breaching the ban on the sale of alcohol in the election run-up.
New Go Go on LK Metro
Sugar Sugar opens this evening, 1st July.
Seven Years in the Nick
It appears Jack got 7 years for his (as yet unknown to me) misdemeanours when he was managing across the road from us. Still waiting for confirmation though.

Songkran Exodus!
With the onset of Songkran in Pattaya there is a distinct absence of expats in the city. Several condo car parks are noticeably emptier than usual as those who can flee the fun! The number of foreign guests attracted for Songkran here declines year on year. Sometime in the future someone has got to realize this or maybe not!
Songkran Madness!
The annual silly season has begun with the usual consequences. First reports were 29 killed in accidents on 12th!
One of our customers was washed off his motorbike yesterday 13th and is now sporting several bandages on his left forearm and left leg! So much for having a fun time at this time of the year. Sooner or later the City authorities will have to come down heavy on the idiots who have no regard for others. I'm not holding my breath!
