I was up in Bangkok last week and was surprised to find somewhat busier with tourists than over the last several visits. Having said that, it wasn't exactly heaving but there was a more positive air about the place. I know from a mate that there would seem to be more people around Karon Beach in Phuket. He couldn't get a room in his own inn!!
A couple of days ago I was talking to a beverage supplier here in Pattaya who told me that the 'high' season was short-lived and that this was the case all over. The bottom line is that a lot of younger lads haven't come over this year or if they have it was with an eye on their budget given all the economic woes in Europe.
Currently, everyone is moaning again about the exchange rates. Euro, Dollar and Sterling all down against the Baht. While you'd expect this to hit exports, according to the newspapers trade is in surplus despite the currency's strength! Tourists, however, are still hoping the Baht will weaken before their next visit.
